PJ & Rita Keane began their business at No.6 Parnell St. Ennis, Co. Clare in 1957. They operated as a retail shop which traded in confectionery and toys and a wholesale business trading in toys, novelties and haberdashery. This wholesale business provided a valuable service to retailers in County Clare. In the 1950's travel was limited so a precedence was set as Keane's provided a delivered goods service to their customers. Between the 1950's and 1970's, a pre cash & carry era, delivered business by the wholesaler was the order of the day. Reliability and service weighed heavily on the customers mind in order that business be sustained. Reliability and service are values which stood the company in good stead since 1957, and these are the values which are carried through in the daily running of Keane's Wholesale.

In the early 1970's Keane's Wholesale began trading with the supermarkets and toy stores. New product ranges were sourced and offered to an expanding customer base. In 1971 the retail business expanded to a larger premises in Abbey St. Ennis and traded as PJ Keane & Sons Ennis Ltd.

In the mid 80's new suppliers were established in the Far East to source further ranges. These included toys, games and household items. In 1986 the wholesale division of the company began trading separately as Keane's Wholesale Ltd. while the retail continued to trade as PJ Keane & Sons Ennis Ltd.

1991 saw Keane's Wholesale Ltd. locate to a new and larger purpose built premises at Wood Quay, Ennis. The company continued to trade well at this new location and continued expansion of goods and services culminated in a further move to a new state of the art premises at Ballymaley Business Park, Galway Rd, Ennis.

In line with this expansion extra staff were employed in order that the best possible service could be provided to our customers.
